IT’S A BIT DIFFERENT

Te Tangi a te Matuhi
Following the exhibit “Station of Earthbound Ghosts” was the publication of the book “Te Tangi a te Matuhi” which catalogued and discussed the themes surrounding this work.
The song (cry) of the rare (extinct?) fern wren is a translation of this title, given first to one of the songs of Te Kooti. The design objective of the book was to explore the themes of Davis' Station of Earthbound Ghosts, by employing a raw, economical, ambiguous, and collagist style - reflecting his approach to writing.

Design and production was handled by DV8 Creative in conjunction with Toby Curnow's editorial oversight. Two-colour printing, plain offset paper bound with with colour plates and tracing paper, grey boxboard cover and corrugated board case, all contributed to the raw, economical and minimalist design.

From the archive

This set includes a small edited archive of some of the more interesting graphics and design projects of the last couple of decades.

These have included identity graphics, branding, promotional graphic design, web and interactive design, packaging, book design, catalogues, brochures, and some architectural glass projects.

Prior to founding DV8 Creative, Stephen worked as a glass artist specialising in architectural graphics and sandblasted glass, exhibiting in NYC in 1992, and with much work still in place around NZ.
